Nomination & Voting Process 2020 – 40th Annual Tejano Music Awards
NOTICE: You must be an authorized representative
of the nominee to submit nominations.
This is NOT for Public or Fan use!
Nominations originate from record companies, group managers, artists, and/or representative. TTMA reviews and submits nominations list to the Nominating and Screening Committee for verification and eligibility. TTMA does not nominate an artist. This is solely the responsibility of the record companies, group managers, artists, and/or representative.
If an Artist is not represented by a Record Label, the Artist can nominate themselves. The Nomination and Screening Committee returns the verified nominations to TTMA for the creation of a ballot. This ballot will then be sent out to the Tejano Industry consisting of Artists, Record Labels, Managers, Radio and News organizations. TTMA sends the voting results to a Certified Public Accountant for tabulation. The CPA submits the results to TTMA. The top 12 nominees from each category will be included in a General Ballot to be sent out to the General Public and Tejano Industry.

TTMA invites all Tejano artists to submit their material. Items will not be returned. If the material is not submitted for consideration, they are not included in the Award selection process. Artists are not required to submit any material or may choose not to submit their material. In order to be fair with everyone, an Artist or record company who knowingly submits ineligible material shall come under review and may be barred from participating in the annual Tejano Music Awards for this years (2019) and next year (2020).
OFFICIAL VOTING- TBA
Top twelve (12) nominees are placed, by qualifying category, on the General Ballot and published on the TMA Web site for qualifying voters. If there are tie votes for the 12th nomination, all tied nominees will be listed on the General Ballot to decide who will be the top nominees. This will sometimes make a category have more than 12 nominees. If there are less than 12 nominees that qualify, TMA will list all nominees that are eligible. If nominees in a category are less than 8, TMA will either eliminate that category or if it makes sense to keep the category will list the category with at least 5 nominees. Categories with 4 or fewer nominees will automatically be eliminated. It is possible for categories to be combined such as for example Female and Male Entertainer Category or Album Tejano and Album Conjunto Category to make up the top 12 nominees.
QUALIFICATION CRITERIA
All entries must have been released between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2019.
In all categories, Artist must have actively performed within the eligibility period. Each category must have a minimum of eight (8) eligible nominations. To qualify for Album of the Year categories, sixty percent (60%) or six (6) music tracks must be new or original renditions. Artists or groups nominated in the Best New Artist Award categories do not qualify for the Album of the Year category. Artists or groups releasing singles only without a CD release will only qualify for the Song of the Year category. All re-mixed material (singles/CDs) qualifies in Industry Ballot, however, only the PRODUCER is eligible.
BEST NEW ARTIST – MALE, FEMALE, AND GROUP CRITERIA
Previous winners of this category are not eligible for re-entry.
Best New Artists must have recorded at least one but not more than three (3) albums. Artist and groups in this category will not be able to nominate in the Male Vocalist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, or Album of the year categories. The categories available to New Artist are Best New Artist – Male, Best New Artist – Female, and Best New Artists – Group.
RE-MIX ENTRY CRITERIA
To qualify in album category, sixty percent (60%) or six (6) music tracks must be new or original renditions. Remixes must qualify for industry ballot. This category must have at least eight (8) nominated artists to justify the creation of a new category. If the category meets the required number, only the Producer/Engineer will be eligible to win. The artist is disqualified due to previous nomination/eligibility in its original form. The artist must have actively performed nominated song or albums within the eligibility period.
SONG OF THE YEAR CRITERIA
A. Single must have been released in 2018 or 2020 but must be included in a CD released during the eligibility period of January 01, 2018 through December 31, 2018 or a single released in 2019 from a 2020 CD. This year digital releases released during the eligible periods mentioned above will qualify in this category only. Submitted singles will not qualify for any future Tejano Music Awards.
B. Singles released prior to the CD release will be eligible and will only qualify in the
“Song of the Year” category. CD must be released during the eligibility period is based on single or CD’s release date per criteria above.
Singles released in compilation CD (i.e.) “The Best of” are eligible if the single was not previously released or submitted. Artists’ or groups nominating in the Best New Artist categories do not qualify in this or any other category.
C. Songs re-released are not eligible if the song was previously submitted for consideration previously. Songs that received minimal airplay will be considered, on a case – by – case basis as decided by the Nominating and Screening Committee.
D. Only two (2) singles from any album may be nominated during the eligibility period. If both singles become top qualified nominees; the record label and artist will select one song as a finalist in order to avoid splitting an artist’s vote since it works against the artist. Artist and/or group may only have one single or track nominated in this category.
VOTING PROCESS FOR GENERAL BALLOT
PHASE I Nominations- TBA
Originate from artists and records labels. TMA reviews and submits to the Nominating and Screening Committee for verification and eligibility. The approved list then goes to artist and record labels for voting. CPA returns top 12 nominees by category to TMA.
PHASE II Official Voting- TBA
Top twelve (12) entries and nominees are placed on the General Ballot and the ballot is placed on the TMA Web site for qualifying voters (registered Tejanos). Voting period ends TBA. Ballots to be postmarked and/or received by CPA no later than TBA. CPA will tabulate ballots and SUBMIT the top five (5) nominees in each category to TMA.

It is our pleasure to once again announce the beginning of the annual Tejano Music Awards nominations process. Please find the specific guidelines and nominations forms in this package for 2020.
The eligibility period for the 40th annual Tejano Music Awards is from January 01, 2019 through December 31, 2019. Only material released during the eligibility period will qualify. Do not submit material released from January through December 2018 or from January through December 2020 and/or previously submitted material for the 39th annual Tejano Music Awards or prior. One exception, this year, will be for single releases. For the 40th annual Tejano Music Awards, singles released from a 2018 or a single form a 2020 CD released in 2019 will qualify for the Song of the Year category only (Submitted songs will not qualify for future awards). Another change will be in the Entertainer of the Year category. The winner of this particular category will be selected by a special committee appointed by the board of directors. Qualifying Tejano Norteño submissions will be considered to qualify in the Tejano Album of the Year category on a case by case basis. When submitting your nomination forms please include two (2) CD’s (failure to submit your CD’s will disqualify your entry). We must be able to verify that the CD was actually released within the qualifying period.

Specific Guidelines
Record companies, group managers, artists, and/or representatives must submit entries eligible for the current period. The eligibility period for the 40th annual Tejano Music Awards is from January 01, 2019 through December 31, 2019.
Only material released during the eligibility period will qualify (exception will be for single releases only).
Group managers and/or representatives must have full authority to act on behalf of the record label or artist.
Verification Form must be signed by a representative authorized to nominate. Verification form must be submitted with nomination(s) or nomination(s) will not be considered for the current eligibility period. Only official Tejano Music Awards forms will be considered per artist or group.

ANNUAL TEJANO MUSIC AWARDS San Antonio, Texas
OVERVIEW
Since 1980 the Tejano Music Awards and various other special events produced by Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA) have provided a forum to create greater awareness and appreciation for Tejano music. This music format has been a tradition in the state of Texas and has transcended regional and cultural boundaries throughout the United States as well as internationally.

Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote professional excellence; a better understanding and greater appreciation for Tejano music; and to provide a public forum for songwriters, performers and musicians in order to recognize their artistic efforts and achievements through the annual Tejano Music Awards and related events.

TMA VOTING PHASES
VOTING PROCESS FOR GENERAL BALLOT
PHASE I Nominations
Originate from record companies, group managers, artists, and/or representatives. Nominees may begin submitting qualified materials August 10, 2020. Qualified materials will be accepted through midnight Monday August 17, 2020. TTMA reviews and submits nominations to the Nominating and Screening Committee for verification and eligibility.
PHASE II Industry Voting
Qualified nominees are placed on the Industry Ballot and ballot is placed on the TTMA web site for voting by qualifying industry voters. On this phase the Top twelve (12) nominees in each category will be selected. Only record companies, group managers, artists, and/or representatives are allowed to vote in this phase. Voting period begins August 24, 2020 and ends September 06, 2020. Ballots must be postmarked and received by TTMA no later than midnight Sunday, September 06, 2020. CPA will tabulate ballots and submits the top twelve (12) nominees in each category to TTMA.
PHASE III Official General Public Voting
Top twelve (12) nominees will be placed on the TTMA web site by category September 15, 2020 for voting by Tejano Music Fans. General public voting period ends midnight September 30, 2020. CPA returns Top five (5) nominees by category to TTMA.
40th Annual Tejano Music Awards GENERAL BALLOT and INDUSTRY Time Line
August 10, 2020 Record companies, group managers, artists, and representatives provide a list of eligible artist and their materials.
August 17, 2020 Qualifying materials are due date midnight. Materials must be sent to the Bino G-TTMA 331 Verde Drive Clute,Texas 77531 and must be postmarked no later than 12:00 am midnight August 17, 2020. Nomination submissions may be made online at www.tejanomusicawards.com by due date. Two (2) CD’s must be submitted to be considered.
August 18, 2020 TTMA compiles a catalog of eligible material.
August 21, 2020 Nominating and Screening Committee meets to review nominations and verify eligibility. Staff will call records labels to provide any additional documentation and/or clarification if required.
August 24, 2020 Industry voting commences to select the Top twelve (12) nominees for each category. Voting will be done on line on the Tejano Music Awards web site. This is only for record companies, group managers, artists, and/or representatives. THIS IS NOT FOR THE PUBLIC.
September 06, 2020 Industry ballots due and must be received by CPA no later than midnight Monday, September 06, 2020.
September 15, 2020 General public voting commences for qualified Tejano Fans. Top twelve (12) nominees’ ballot is placed on TTMA web site for on line voting.
September 30, 2020 Voting will end 12:00 am midnight Monday, September 30, 2020.
October 15, 2019 CPA’s tabulations delivered to TTMA. Nominees will be announced online. Winners will be announced on November 28, 2020 at 40th Annual Tejano Music Awards to be held virtually.

Master list of nominations is submitted by the record companies, group managers, artists, and/or the representative and is placed on the TTMA web site for the industry to select the top twelve (12) nominees. The top twelve (12) nominees are then placed on the TTMA web site for the general public to vote for the top five (5) nominees in each category.
C. QUALIFYING PERIOD
All material must have been released in the qualifying period of January 01, 2019 through December 31, 2019. In all categories, artist must have actively performed within the eligibility period.
Albums must be release during the eligibility period to be eligible in every category with the exception of Song of the Year. Each category must have at least five (5) eligible nominations to be considered as a viable category.

To qualify in the “Single of the Year” category, single must have been released during the eligibility period and be nominated by the deadline date. This category is for individual tracks only and includes digital and physical releases. Date of release will be based on submission to either CD Baby or iTunes and verified by the nominating and screening committee. For digital singles please submit either a CD or USB thumb drive (USB thumb drives will not be returned). Single must have made the Top 25 during the qualifying period.
