Process
2009 - 29th Annual Tejano Music Awards
A. NOMINATIONS
Originate from Artists and Record Labels. TTMA reviews and submits nominations list to the Nominating and Screening Committee for verification and eligibility.
B. OFFICIAL VOTING
Top twelve (12) nominees are placed, by qualifying category, on the General Ballot and published on the TTMA Web site for qualifying voters.
C. CRITERIA
All entries must have been released between November 1, 2007 and October 31, 2008.
In all categories, Artist must have actively performed within the eligibility period.
Each category must have a minimum of eight (8) eligible nominations.
To qualify in "Album of the Year" categories, sixty percent (60%) or six (6) music tracks must be new or
original renditions. Artists’ or groups nominating in the Best New Artist or Horizon Award categories do not qualify in the “Album of the Year” category.
Artists’ or groups releasing singles only without a CD release will only qualify for the “Song of the Year” category.
All re-mixed material (singles/CD's) qualifies in Industry Ballot, however only the PRODUCER is eligible.
BEST NEW ARTIST - MALE, FEMALE, AND GROUP CRITERIA
Best New Artists must have recorded at least one (1) single, but not more than three (3) albums. Artist and groups in this category will not be able to nominate in the Male Vocalist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, or Album of the year categories.

RE-MIX ENTRY CRITERIA
To qualify in album category, sixty percent (60%) or six (6) music tracks must be new or original renditions.
Re-mixes must qualify in industry ballot. This category must have at least eight (8) nominated artists to justify creation of a new category.
If category meets the required number, only the Producer/Engineer will be eligible to win. Artist is disqualified due to previous nomination/eligibility in its original form.
Artist must have actively performed nominated song or albums within the eligibility period.
“CROSSOVER SONG” CRITERIA
Song must be recorded by a Tejano band.
Song cannot be considered a Cumbia or a Ranchera.
HORIZON AWARD CRITERIA
CRITERIA FOR HORIZON AWARD CATEGORY
Horizon Awards Artists must have recorded at least four (4) albums but not more than (6) albums. This category is for groups not qualifying for the Best New Group category due to criteria. Groups in this category will not be able to nominate in the Album of the Year categories.
After verification of eligible nominees by Nominating and Screening Committee, nominees will be placed on the Official Artists’ Voting Ballot..
Entries received after the deadline will not be included in the final tabulation.
“SONG OF THE YEAR” CRITERIA
A. Single must have been released during the eligibility period of November 1, 2007 and October 31, 2008.
Singles from an album are eligible for two (2) eligibility periods. Two-Year eligibility begins with release date of the single from an album, not yet released, and the year the album is released or the year the album is released and the following year if the single was not previously released.
Eligibility is based on singles or albums release date per criteria above.
Each single or track is eligible only ONCE.
Singles released in compilation CD i.e. . . . . . . .. “The Best of” are eligible if the single was not previously released.
Songs re-released are not eligible if the song was previously submitted as a nomination.
Songs that received minimal airplay in life will be considered, on a case – by – case basis by the Nominating and Screening Committee.
Only two (2) singles from any album may be nominated during one (1) eligibility period.
If both singles become top 12 nominees; the record label and artist will select one song as a finalist. (Avoid splitting an artist’s vote since it works against the artist).
After verification of eligible nominees by Nominating and Screening Committee, nominees will be placed on the Official Artists’ Voting Ballot.
Entries received after the deadline will not be included in the final tabulation.
VOTING PROCESS FOR GENERAL BALLOT
PHASE I Nominations
Originate from artists and records labels. TTMA reviews and submits to the Nominating and Screening Committee for verification and eligibility. Approved list then goes to artist and record labels for voting. CPA returns top 12 nominees by category to TTMA.
PHASE II Official Voting
Top twelve (12) entries and nominees are placed on the General Ballot and the
ballot is placed on the TTMA Web site for qualifying voters (registered Tejanos). Voting period ends May 31, 2009: Ballots to be postmarked and/or received by CPA no later than May 31, 2009. CPA will tabulated ballots and SUBMIT the top five (5) nominees in each category to TTMA. Nominees will be announced at the TMA Nominees Dance or the TMA Fan Fair. Date and location TBA.
CRITERIA FOR ARTISTS’ INDUSTRY BALLOT
OBJECTIVE
To recognize Artists, Musicians, Composers and Songwriters for excellence in Tejano Music fields. Voting by peers only. NOT FOR THE PUBLIC.
BEST TEJANO MUSICIAN(S)
A. To be nominated by industry and voted on by peers only. (Separate ballot from the
General Ballot).
B Musicians must be voted on for his/her primary instrument. (Screening Committee
to decide which instrument, if the artist is multi-talented)
CPA Firm to tabulate forms.

Top five (5) nominees will be announced at 29th TMA Nominees Dance in date TBA.

Rising Star – Male
Rising Star – Female
Rising Star – Group
All of the above must have recorded at least one (1) single, but no more than two (2)
albums.
Nominations originate from Artists and record labels.
After verification of eligible nominees by Screening Committee, nominees are placed on
the Official Artists’ Voting Ballot.
Only Tejano artists and record label representatives may vote on this ballot. It is
the responsibility of each Artist to complete and return the Artists’ Ballot, by U.S. Mail (orWEB site voting if applicable), to the CPA by due date.
