Nomination & Voting Process
2008 - 28th Annual Tejano Music Awards

A. NOMINATIONS

Originate from Artists, Record Labels, Radio Stations and "Amigos of Tejano Music." CPA firm tabulates and submits to the Nominating and Screening Committee for verification and eligibly.

B. OFFICIAL VOTING

Top (12) twelve entries and Nominees are placed on the General Ballot and sent out to voters, including artists, record labels, radio stations, "Amigos of Tejano Music" and "Registered Tejano's."

C. CRITERIA

All entries must have been released between November 1, 2006 and October 31, 2007.

In all categories, Artist must have actively performed within the eligibility period.

Each category must have a minimum of eight (8) eligible nominations.

To qualify in "Album of the Year" categories, sixty percent (60%) or six (6) music tracks must be new or original renditions.

All re-mixed material (singles/CD's) qualifies in Industry Ballot, however only the PRODUCER is eligible.

D. MOST PROMISING BAND

Must have recorded at least one (1) album but no more than three (3). Nominees will appear on the General Voting Ballot.

Voting Phase 2

Top twelve (12) entries and nominees are placed on the General Ballot and sent out to voters.

Voting period: (Date To Be Determined) through (Date To be Determined). Ballots to be postmarked and/or received by CPA Firm no later than (Date To Be Determined).

CPA Firm tabulates ballots and top five (5) nominees in each category are announced at the Tejano Music Awards Nominees Dance. (This was recently changed from top 3 to the top 5).


CRITERIA FOR ARTISTS' BALLOT (Tejano Industry Awards)

OBJECTIVE

To recognize Artists, Musicians, Composers, and Songwriters for excellence in Tejano Music fields. VOTING BY PEERS ONLY.

BEST TEJANO MUSICIAN(S)

A. To be nominated by industry and voted on by peers only. (Separate ballot from General Ballot.)

B. Musicians must be voted on for his/her primary instrument. (Screening Committee to decide which instrument, if the artist is multi-talented.)

C. CPA Firm to tabulate forms.

D. BEST MUSICIANS CATEGORIES:

  • ACCORDION
  • BAJO SEXTO
  • BASS
  • DRUMS
  • GUITAR
  • HORN - BRASS
  • HORN - WOODWIND
  • KEYBOARDS

RISING STAR AWARDS

Rising Star - Male
Rising Star - Female
Rising Star - Group

All of the above must have recorded at least one (1) single, but no more than two (2) albums.

Nominations originate from Artists, Radio Stations and Record Labels.

After verification of eligible nominees by Screening Committee, nominees are placed on the Official Artists' Voting Ballot.

Only Tejano Artists may vote on this ballot. It is the responsibility of each Artist to complete and return the Artists' Ballot, by U.S. Mail.

"SONG OF THE YEAR" CRITERIA

Single must have been released during the eligibility period.

Material from an album is eligible for two(2) eligibility periods. Two-Year eligibly begins with release date of album or first single from an album (whichever comes first.)

Eligibility is based on single's release date. Each single or track is eligible only ONCE.

Singles released in compilation CD, ie..."The Best of" are eligible if the single was not previously released.

Songs re-released are not eligible if the song was previously a nominee.

Songs that received minimal airplay in life will be considered, on a case by case basis by the Nominating and Screening Committee.

Only two (2) singles from any album may be nominated during one (1) eligibility period.

If both singles become top 12 nominees, the record label and artist will select one song as a finalist. (Avoid splitting an artist's vote.)

"Song of the Year" to be awarded to both the recording artist and songwriter

 

"TEJANO CROSSOVER SONG" CRITERIA

A. Song must be performed by a Tejano Band

B. Song can not be considered a Cumbia or a Ranchera.
